In Spite of It All
Tonya Barbee wrote this book as the “whole story” sequel to the Little Girl Inside Owning My Role in My Own Pain. She flushes out her personal and painful experiences. Tonya elaborates more in detail about the intricacies of relationships beginning with her father. Was he really her hero? She then unveils the story of her four failed marriages. She faced challenge after challenge while attempting to discern between what is real love and fairy-tale love. It took her several years to find authentic love but not before she was able to take preventive measures into account by soul searching and performing damage control. She had to ask herself some questions. Why is this happening to me repeatedly? I’m a nice person, why do I engage myself with people who mean me harm? What am I doing to cause this? What can I do to make a change? As the author started to ask these questions within, she started to get answers within.
The “whole story” reveals what she did to change but it wasn’t until she realized she was the common denominator in all of these relationships. Her self-reflection and taking action resulted in detracting those in her life that were detrimental. No more toxic relationships! The domestic violence, drug abuser, cheater, emotionally unavailable, and bigamist, all toxic, no longer exist in her life.
This book is for those who can’t seem to get it right. Every relationship goes wrong. It just may be time to self-reflect by self-examination in order to have a more productive life and to learn new behaviors in order to avoid repetitive vicious cycles. Turn the pages to unveil Tonya’s heart-wrenching journey, the “whole story.”
